New Change4Life scheme to offer discounts on healthy foods

6th January 2012

A new government health initiative being rolled out this week is to provide UK residents with discounts on healthy foods and ingredients.

Part of the Change4Life campaign, the new Supermeals scheme will offer reduced prices on items such as fruit, vegetables and low-fat yoghurt at more than 1,000 major retail outlets, including Asda, Aldi and the Co-operative.

Other elements of the latest promotion include the distribution of four million recipe packs with healthy meal ideas and 100,000 free copies of a cookbook by chef Ainsley Harriott, while a new online recipe finder has also been launched.

The aim of the latest promotion is to help people in the UK to plan and purchase healthy meals in an affordable way.

Public health minister Anne Milton said: "The new year is a good time to think about losing weight. The Supermeals campaign will give us all some great ideas for balanced meals on a budget."

This follows a government report last month which showed that people who swap unhealthy habits for healthy ones are more likely to make other positive changes to their lifestyles in other areas.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801257627-ADNFCR
