New Coronavirus Vaccine Accepted by Japan Health Minister

30th November 2023

Arcturus Therapeutics and CSL’s new coronavirus vaccine, which utilizes self-amplifying mRNA, has been accepted by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.

The injection is recommended for use as a booster and as a first vaccination in all adults are 18 or over

The acceptance of the coronavirus vaccine follows encouraging results from research studies.

In one phase focusing on the booster aspect, the injection showed an increased immune response to the virus and a higher safety standard in comparison to the current coronavirus vaccine.

Jonathan Edelman, CSL’s leading body of the vaccine research division, commented, “We are committed to working with health authorities around the world to ensure this important vaccine technology will be available to people at risk for Covid-19.”

Joseph Payne, head executive of Arcturus Therapeutics, commented, “We are proud of the role that Arcturus has played in this collaboration to develop and validate the first approved sa-mRNA product in the world.”

Payne went on to add, “This approval for the sa-mRNA Covid-19 vaccine is a major achievement, and we are excited to embark on future endeavours that utilise our innovative sa-mRNA vaccine platform alongside our global exclusive partner, CSL.”
