New Veterinary Defence society initiative enquiries hit an all-time high

30th April 2018

The Veterinary Defence Society has seen a 25% increase in enquiries for professional negligence and dispute – something that bosses find “quite striking”.

Commercial Director Anthony Lewis said “In the past year, we’ve had about a 25 per cent increase in the number of calls asking for support and advice. It’s important to note this isn’t an increase in claims as such; it’s support and help that people are needing.

“It is an increasing trend we’ve been seeing for a while, but 25 per cent in a year is quite striking”
He added the number of actual legal claims made to VDS over the past year was “steady”.
“The increase is the fastest we have seen and is part of a steady and consistent increase in risk management advice provided by the VDS. It is, however, important to put this in the context the increase is as much about a better knowledge of, and easier to access to, our service – for example, via email and web as opposed to just telephone – as it is about any worsening trends in the profession.“
