NHS aims to make online content more visible

10th March 2017

NHS England is working to make its online content more easily visible to internet users.

The organisation is therefore collaborating with Google and Bing to get these pages to the top of search engine results.

It is hoped this will get more people turning to official and trusted information when they are researching particular ailments online, Digitalhealth.net reports.

Juliet Bauer, director of digital experience at NHS England, said: "Although we have our own website and our own trusted content, we also need to be thinking about where people are looking for health information before they get to NHS Choices.”

She said by pointing people towards the right information, pressure on the NHS could be relieved and patients could have a much better experience.

NHS England is also planning to work with Apple to raise the profile of a new app that is being launched later this month.

Ms Bauer said the organisation wants to ensure that people who are searching for health apps "get trusted ones and the ones that work".

However, she acknowledged this is a challenge for Apple as well as the NHS.
