NHS launches online maternity guide

4th August 2008

The NHS has launched an online guide for mums and mums-to-be.

Pregnancy Care Planner is a maternity website with up-to-date information on a range of subjects from how to get pregnant, how mother and baby can stay healthy, scans and the actual birth.

According to the Department of Health, pregnancy is the most researched health issue on the internet and health is the most researched subject online.

Gwyneth Lewis, the Department of Health Clinical lead for maternity, said: “This new online resource is an excellent way for people to find out more about NHS pregnancy and birth services and to see what local maternity services can offer them.”

Visitors to the website – www.nhs.uk/pregnancy – simply have to enter their postcode on the website and then choose units they want to compare.

Services on the website also includes advice for dads, information about maternity leave and how to claim benefits which women may be entitled to once they become pregnant.
