NHS partners with Tinder to promote organ donations

15th December 2015

NHS Blood and Transplant has announced a new partnership with Tinder to encourage more young people to become organ donors.

The popular dating app has agreed to support a new NHS campaign called The Wait, which will publicise the fact that just under 7,000 people are currently on the UK transplant waiting list, with more than 6,000 deaths among people awaiting an organ transplant in the last decade.

Made in Chelsea star Jamie Laing, Olympic gold medallist Jade Jones and Emmerdale actress Gemma Oaten have all made special Tinder profiles emblazoned with The Wait logo to help raise awareness of the campaign.

By swiping right on these profiles, users can agree to donate and click on the link provided to sign up to the NHS Organ Donor Register. The aim is to improve interest in organ donorship among people aged between 18 and 35.

Sally Johnson, director of Organ Donation and Transplantation at NHS Blood and Transplant, said: "With the help of these bespoke profiles on Tinder, we’ll grab people's attention and throw a spotlight on the importance of organ donation."ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801808203-ADNFCR
