NHS Plus network awarded national contract

30th September 2008

NHS Plus and NHS Direct have announced the NHS Plus network has won its first national contract for the provision of occupational health services.

The contract aims to deliver high-quality occupational health services to NHS Direct via a partnership of Health at Work at Imperial College with 31 NHS Plus network members.

Under the contract, the new NHS Plus model will guarantee all NHS Direct staff are treated to a national standard of service which will be consistently delivered across all 37 sites.

NHS Direct is a provider of tele-healthcare information and advice and handles over 28.5 million contacts each year, employing 3,200 members of staff in nine English regions.

NHS Plus said it is vital to the patient experience to guarantee the health and well-being of NHS Direct staff.

Andrew Kelly, national head of HR policy and ER for NHS Direct, said: “Taking care of our people is mission critical – we simply can’t provide the highest level of patient care without them.”

He added the granting of the contract to NHS Plus makes sure staff will receive the highest quality of occupational health services.

In June 2008, the government announced the publication of the final draft of the NHS Next Stage Review from health minister Lord Darzi.
