Nikon launches 2 new microscopes

4th December 2009

Nikon has launched its latest scientific instruments ? the two new super resolution microscopes N-SIM and N-STORM.

The products have been designed to provide higher resolution than that achieved by conventional optic microscopes.

The N-SIM model was developed with technology licensed from the University of California, while the N-STORM product utilises licensed methods from Harvard University.

Using fluorescence microscopy technology, the instruments allow scientists and researchers to view microstructures and nanostructures of living cells with molecular-scale resolution.

According to Nikon, the N-SIM boasts time resolution of 0.6 seconds per frame, making it the fastest microscope in the industry.

Additionally, N-STORM can provide 2D-image-acquisition capability and fluorescence images of the same specimen in 3D, it added.

Last month, Nikon, reported net sales of 368.08 million yen (2.45 million pounds) during the first half of the year – representing a rise of 24.4 per cent compared to the same period of 2008.
