Norbrook Laboratories launches CPD guidance on equine worming approaches

2nd November 2017

Norbrook Laboratories has announced the launch of its latest continuous professional development (CPD) bulletin, offering guidance on the best way of using equine wormers.

The company's new ProCPD Bulletin, accredited by the Animal Medicines Training Regulatory Authority (AMTRA), outlines measures that horse owners can adopt to maintain the efficacy of equine wormers and prevent the development of anthelmintic resistance.

As well as offering information on general hygiene, tests to help determine parasite burden, drug choice, correct dosing and timing, the bulletin also includes a return questionnaire, which is worth two AMTRA CPD points.

Additionally, a hints and tips section summarises information that staff can pass on to owners, such as the amount of money that could be saved by using faecal egg count and tapeworm testing.

Douglas Palmer, vet advisor at Norbrook, said: "With little prospect of a new class of anthelmintic being developed in the foreseeable future, it is essential for us all to maintain the efficacy of the treatments we currently have."

The ProCPD Bulletin is distributed as part of Norbrook's broader ProCPD programme, which has accrued more than 1,000 members since launching in early 2015.
