Novartis and Malaria No More raise funds for 3m treatments in Zambia
Novartis has announced that enough funds have been raised to deliver three million antimalarial treatments for children in Zambia via its partnership with the charity group Malaria No More.
The company has been cooperating with Malaria No More's Power of One campaign, which was launched in September 2013, with Novartis acting as exclusive treatment sponsor. Every US dollar donated to the campaign buys and delivers a treatment for a child with malaria in Africa.
Novartis' associates have rallied behind the campaign to fund close to 500,000 antimalarial treatments for Zambia, the first African country to change its treatment guidelines from chloroquine to newer artemisinin-based combination therapies.
Having passed the three million milestone in Zambia, the campaign is now being extended to Kenya, where 200,000 treatments have already been delivered.
Joseph Jimenez, chief executive officer of Novartis, said: "Power of One is a natural extension of our company's commitment to the fight against malaria and I am very proud of the contributions Novartis associates have made to help children in Zambia."
Its work with the charity earned Novartis a global corporate citizenship award at the Malaria No More International Honors annual benefit last year.
