Novartis names new chief digital officer

25th August 2017

Novartis has announced the appointment of Bertrand Bodson as its first dedicated chief digital officer, effective as of January 1st 2018.

In this newly-created role, Mr Bodson will be responsible for creating and executing a company-wide digital strategy to improve the way Novartis uses data to aid drug discovery and development, engage with key stakeholders and automate business processes.

He will work in close collaboration with the executive committee of Novartis, dealing directly with leadership teams across the business and external partners, while reporting to chief executive officer of Novartis Joseph Jimenez.

Mr Bodson joins Novartis from the Sainsbury's subsidiary Argos, which he has helped to transform from a traditional catalogue business into the third-largest online retailer in the UK.

Prior to Argos, he held a senior role at EMI Music and co-founded the social networking and content sharing website Bragster.com, with other former employers including Amazon and the Boston Consulting Group.

Mr Jiminez said: "This is not just about digital helping the business. Bertrand will help us transform our business model using digital technologies."
