Novartis names new head of oncology division
Novartis has announced the appointment of Bruno Strigini as president of its Novartis Oncology division, effective as of June 1st 2014.
Mr Strigini joins Novartis from Merck Sharp and Dohme and boasts 25 years of experience in the pharmaceutical, animal health, over-the-counter and vaccines sectors, leading in both international and local roles.
His most recent position at Merck was that of president for Europe and Canada, a role that saw him oversee 37 countries and 10,000 associates. Former employers also include Schering-Plough, UCB-Celltech and SmithKline Beecham.
Mr Strigini is also a member of the Executive Committee for the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries & Associations and of the Academie Nationale de Pharmacie in France.
A statement from the company said: "He has a global perspective on the healthcare industry, with expertise across diverse geographies, including both mature and emerging markets."
Dr Alessandro Riva has filled the role of Novartis Oncology president on an interim basis since January 2014, following the departure of Herve Hoppenot to become chief executive officer of Incyte.
