Novartis reveals University of Brighton may acquire its Horsham site

30th January 2015

Novartis has announced that it has entered into exclusive talks with the University of Brighton regarding the purchase of the pharmaceutical company's former Horsham site.

Based on Wimblehurst Road, the plant would allow the university's staff and students to develop their research, using industry-standard equipment and facilities.

Leader of Horsham District Council Ray Dawe explained that having a university presence on the old Novartis site would help to create more jobs, enable local people to develop their skills and boost the economy of the region.

In a statement, Novartis said: "The university's proposal offers an exciting opportunity, which could bring long-term benefits to the town and local residents, as well as realise our ambition in leaving a scientific legacy at the site."

However, the firm added that the deal will be subject to all the usual regulatory approvals before anything can be officially finalised. Financial details of the proposed acquisition have not yet been disclosed.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801772999-ADNFCR
