Novo Nordisk and C40 partner on urban health project
Novo Nordisk has announced a new urban health and environmental protection project with the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group.
The research-based partnership aims to establish green policies in cities that are beneficial to both the state of the environment and the health of their citizens, leveraging the expertise and specialist knowledge of both organisations.
Their aim will be to generate new insights on a range of co-benefits of climate action, in particular the health of city populations. Novo Nordisk will specifically offer its insights on diabetes and how it affects individuals, families, health systems and societies.
It is understood that city lifestyles are playing a big role in contributing to the current global diabetes epidemic, with two-thirds of the world's 415 million people living with the condition found in urban areas.
Jakob Riis, executive vice-president of Novo Nordisk, said: "We aim to help city leaders to develop and maintain urban environments that facilitate good health and prevent conditions such as diabetes."
