Novo Nordisk becomes first pharma company to publish EP&L account

27th February 2014

Novo Nordisk has added to its green credentials by publishing it first Environmental Profit & Loss (EP&L) account.

The pharma company, best known as a supplier of insulin, was named the world's most sustainable company in Davos 2012 and has executive pay linked to environmental indicators.

Novo Nordisk is the first pharmaceutical group to have a EP&L account and only the second major corporation to do this, following sportswear manufacturer Puma's lead.

Susanne Stormer, the danish company's vice-president for corporate sustainability, said the process has given Novo valuable insights into the value of all the environmental factors associated with all the purchases in its supply chain, as well as the production at its own sites.

"We look forward to the continued deliberation on how the EP&L methodology can be used to inform decision-making," she added.

In developing the EP&L accounting process, both Novo and Puma worked alongside natural capital analyst Trucost.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801698315-ADNFCR
