Novo Nordisk’s diabetic cyclic team to take part in Tour of Britain
Novo Nordisk has announced that Team Novo Nordisk, its all-diabetic professional cycling team, will be taking part in the upcoming Tour of Britain.
By participating in the UK's leading professional cycle race, the team aims to help inspire, educate and empower those across the country who are affected by diabetes, in line with its founding principles.
The members of Team Novo Nordisk all have type 1 diabetes and are able to manage their condition while competing in one of the toughest endurance sports. Most members were diagnosed before the age of 18.
They competed in their first International Cycling Union race in 2013, with 18 riders from around the world currently riding under the team banner.
Phil Southerland, co-founder and chief executive officer of Team Novo Nordisk, said: "We're here to show people with diabetes that you can achieve your goals and live life well through good control."
The race begins in Wales and moves across the country, riding through towns and cities including Edinburgh, Stoke-on-Trent and Ipswich, before the final London stage is held on September 13th.
