NPA pharmacy veteran awarded MBE

3rd January 2013

The National Pharmacy Association (NPA) has congratulated British pharmacy sector veteran Raj Patel after he was awarded an MBE in the New Year's Honours List.

Mr Patel, who graduated from Manchester University with a pharmacy degree in 1986 and opened his first pharmacy three years later, has been awarded the honour in recognition of his services to the industry for more than two decades.

He owns more than six outlets in Crewe, Sale and Clayton in Staffordshire and has represented the Greater Manchester region on the NPA board since 1998, as well as being a Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee nominee and former NPA chairman.

Additionally, he represents the NPA in Europe as the head of the UK delegation to the Pharmaceutical Group of the EU (PGEU).

Mr Patel said: "I am delighted with the award, as I always hope to serve the profession to best of my ability. Thanks to all my colleagues and especially my family."

Last month, the new MBE helped the PGEU launch a new blueprint aimed at improving understanding within EU institutions of the current and future role of community pharmacy.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801516190-ADNFCR
