Olympus launches virtual image viewer app for iPad

29th January 2014

Olympus has announced the launch of the OlyVIA Mobile iPad App, a free software application for Apple tablets that allows entire libraries of virtual microscope images to be easily viewed.

Designed for use with images captured using the Olympus VS120 virtual slide scanning system, the app allows data shared via the Olympus Net Image ServerSQL v2.7 software to be conveniently accessed from anywhere in the world.

It is capable of displaying large brightfield and multidimensional fluorescence images, which can be verified, selected, zoomed and observed using simple touch and swipe-based controls. In this way, it combines the user-friendliness and portability of the iPad with the excellent image quality of the Olympus VS120 system.

This expands the functionality and usability of the VS120 system, which creates high-resolution digital images of complete microscope specimens that are stored on a server for remote viewing.

It won three first place awards at the biennial International Scanner Contest in 2012 in the colour and precision, fluorescence 20x and fluorescence 40x categories, while also claiming two awards at the inaugural contest in 2010.

Olympus has been a leading manufacturer of innovative optical and digital equipment since 1919.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801687799-ADNFCR
