Orion reshuffles board of directors’ positions

29th January 2009

Orion’s nomination committee has given recommendation for the composition of the organisation’s board of directors, it has announced.

Under the terms of the proposal, the number of members would be seven, with the current executives Hannu Syrjanen, Matti Kavetvuo, Leena Palotie, Vesa Puttonen, Eero Karvonen and Jukka Ylppo re-elected to their roles.

The recommendation would also see Sirpa Jalkanen elected as a new member.

Last month, Orion filed an infringement lawsuit against Wockhardt.

The patents in question – 5,135,950, 5,446,194 and 6,500,867 – surround the organisation’s Stalevo, of which Wockhardt sought to market a generic version.

Used for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease, the enhanced levodopa therapy is marketed by Novartis.

Commenting on the lawsuit, the company said: “Orion Corporation and Novartis will vigorously defend the intellectual property rights covering Stalevo.”

The company was formed in 1917, by Onni Turpeinen, Eemil Tuurala and Wikki Walkama.
