Orthovita to launch new non-structural bone void filler

18th February 2011

Orthovita has announced the launch of a new non-structural bone void filler offering with applications in pelvis, extremity and posterolateral spine surgery.

The Vitoss Bioactive Foam-2X Bone Graft Substitute has been showcased at the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons annual meeting and is the first of a number of product launches planned by the firm in this therapeutic area.

Designed with a similar structure and porosity to the older Vitoss BA, the new product contains increased levels of bioactive glass, which helps to improve its. bioactivity performance.

It features proprietary collagen material from Kensey Nash Corporation, which will be paid royalty fees based on the sales of the product.

Antony Koblish, president and chief executive officer of Orthovita, said: "We believe the combination of increased bioactivity and our unique scaffold design will support more effective bone formation than before."

Earlier this month, the manufacturer won US regulatory approval for its new Vitoss BA Bimodal Bone Graft Substitute, which is currently planned for a 2011/12 launch.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800414528-ADNFCR
