Otsuka establishes holding company

Otsuka Pharmaceutical Group has announced the establishment of Otsuka Holdings responsible for strategic management functions.

It will focus on the allocation of resources throughout the company and formulation and implementation of strategic business proposals for the whole group.

Each of the 106 subsidiaries and affiliates at Otsuka will carry on pursuing their separate business goals.

The company said this new corporate governance structure will facilitate speedy responses in a changing business environment while also carrying out is social obligations as a responsible corporate entity.

Otsuka Holdings will operate with the group philosophy of “people creating new products for better health worldwide” and aims to head a global group that creates value.

Tatsuo Higuchi, president and representative director of the company, said: “Otsuka Holdings will strive to contribute to the health and prosperity of people all over the world by bringing to market original products and services based on the innovative ideas of the group companies.”

He added that this new entity has the goal of preserving the distinct characteristics of each of its group companies while also encouraging synergies across the group and boosting the overall corporate value of the firm.

Prior to his appointment as president of Otsuka Holdings, Mr Higuchi was president and representative director of Otsuka Pharmaceutical for eight years.
