Patients asked to share experiences of Liverpool Care Pathway
The government is calling on NHS patients to contribute to the current independent review of the Liverpool Care Pathway for Dying Patients.
Members of the public are invited to share both positive and negative experiences of the controversial palliative care methodology, the review of which is being chaired by crossbench peer Baroness Julia Neuberger.
This initiative has been launched in response to evidence of "unacceptable" cases where patients or their families were ignored or not properly involved in decisions, while in more extreme situations some were inappropriately denied food or fluids.
Care and support minister Norman Lamb said: "It is vital for relatives to have complete confidence in the care that their loved ones are receiving. This is why we want to hear from people with experience of the Liverpool Care Pathway."
The aim of the review will be to provide recommendations about what changes may be necessary to improve care, improve transparency and ensure the dignity of patients is guaranteed.
