PerkinElmer acquires Indian company Tulip Diagnostics

13th January 2017

PerkinElmer has announced the acquisition of India's Tulip Diagnostics, a move that will expand its infectious disease screening capabilities.

Based in Goa, Tulip is one of India's largest domestic providers of in-vitro diagnostic reagents, kits and instruments, servicing to a broad customer base of diagnostic labs and government and private healthcare facilities.

Its offerings include products for the prevention, screening and diagnosis of infectious diseases such as malaria, HIV and hepatitis, with the strength of this portfolio supporting PerkinElmer's growth plans in emerging market diagnostics.

The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2017 and will complement the company's existing range of instruments, reagents, assay platforms and software offerings for the reproductive health, infectious disease screening and genomics markets.

Prahlad Singh, senior vice-president and president of diagnostics at PerkinElmer, said: "We are committed to expanding our infectious disease screening menu and capabilities, and Tulip's product portfolio, channel access and broad footprint provide the key enablers to help accelerate our growth in this important market."
