PerkinElmer announces financial results for fourth quarter

PerkinElmer, a global leader in the health sciences and photonics markets, has revealed that its total revenue for the fourth quarter of 2007 was $511.5 million.

This is an increase of 20 per cent versus the fourth quarter of the previous year.

The area which showed the most significant improvement was the optoelectrics market, which recorded a 22 per cent increase in revenue since 2006.

Meanwhile, the company has reported earnings per share for the past three months in 2007 of $0.45- this is above initial predictions of a figure between $0.42 and $0.44.

Gregory L. Summe, chairman and chief executive officer of PerkinElmer, said: "Our excellent fourth quarter results finish off a year of strong growth for the Company. The solid fundamentals across our portfolio of businesses reflect the investments that we have made in new products, services and geographic expansion."

"During the quarter, we also completed the acquisition of ViaCell, a leader in the processing and storage of stem cells from umbilical cord blood. We believe that we are very well positioned to sustain our growth momentum in 2008," he continued.
