PerkinElmer launches assay kits

17th December 2008

PerkinElmer has announced the launch of 11 assay kits designed to rapidly detect full-length kinase activation in cell lysates.

The company, which focuses on health and safety, said the 11 AlphaScreen SureFire products represented new assays to map pathways associated with diseases such as cancer and metabolic disorders.

The "mix and read" technology included in the kits has been created to eliminate assay protocol multiple wash steps, which PerkinElmer described as "cumbersome".

AlphaScreen SureFires simplify this process as well as measuring the endogeonous full-length protein phosphorylation.

Group president of bio-discovery Richard M Eglen said the products were a continuation of the company’s mission to provide tools for researchers investigating cell-based assays.

"With continued emphasis on kinase-based research and the growing need for new technologies to measure cellular pathway activation, PerkinElmer is taking action to provide solutions for evolving researcher requirements," he added.

The addition of 11 kits brings the total to 39.

Meanwhile, the beginning of this month saw the company acquire Arnel, which specialises in custom-engineered gas chromatography solutions.

PerkinElmer said the purchase was an "important strategic initiative" and would help to expand its portfolio.
