PerkinElmer reveals Operetta system at conference

14th January 2009

PerkinElmer has launched its High Content Screening (HCS) and High Content Analysis (HCA) instrument at a conference on the topic.

The benchtop Operetta system – designed for use in cellular science and drug discovery research laboratories – was unveiled at the sixth annual High Content Screening System Analysis Conference, held in San Francisco.

Operetta uses PerkinElmer’s new Harmony software to provide HCS and HCA researchers with the "building blocks" to create user-configurable workflows through simple procedures, the company said.

Richard M Eglen, president of bio-discovery at PerkinElmer, explained the platform gives users access to the organisation’s knowledge of the area.

"Our expertise in cellular imaging provides us with unique insights into common issues encountered in implementing HCS research," he commented, adding Operetta users can now use this experience to "easily and rapidly optimise imaging studies for their cell science research".
