PerkinElmer signs agreement to use OSRAM technology for LED products

12th February 2008

PerkinElmer has signed a patent license agreement with OSRAM GmbH to use its white light emitting diode (LED) for the manufacture of LED components.

Under the terms of the agreement, PerkinElmer gains non-exclusive, royalty bearing rights to use the technology to manufacture a variety of lighting solutions.

PerkinElmer plans to incorporate the white LEDs into its ACULED platform based on chip-on-board technology.

According to the optoelectronics company, this will result in an expanded LED portfolio of high power, high efficiency standard white LED products – all sold under the brand name ACULED VHL.

It also plans to launch a range of custom designs under the brand ACULED DYO.

Dr. Michael Kramer, managing director LED Solutions, said: "Securing this important license allows PerkinElmer to add white LEDs to its range of current and future LED offerings."

"We look forward to innovating with these ‘green,’ environmentally-efficient white LED technologies in our continued efforts to provide the most advanced lighting solutions to the medical lighting industry."

PerkinElmer is a global technology leader working within the optoelectronics and life and analytical sciences markets.

It operates in 125 countries and employs more than 8,500 individuals.
