PerkinElmer to form software collaboration with IDBS
PerkinElmer will collaborate with IDBS on a project aimed at improving interpretation and data analysis of High Content Screening (HCS), it has been announced.
The former company’s Columbus image data management system for HCS – an enabling technology used to find cellular markers which are connected with human health and disease – will be used with IDBS’s screening data management software, called ActivityBase XE.
Combining the two will allow researchers to produce "compelling exploratory outcomes", according to a statement released by IDBS.
Richard M Eglen, president of Bio-discovery at PerkinElmer, described the collaboration as "a timely and highly promising advance" which will give researchers access to "greater insights" into diseases’ cell-based mechanisms. In addition, novel therapies developed through a better understanding of the source of diseases are expected.
He added the future of HCS "lies in an increased synergy between technologies that integrate vast image content with large compound sets, to generate actionable research data".
