PerkinElmer unveils new software partnership

27th April 2009

PerkinElmer has announced a new partnership that it hopes will result in the development of new cellular imaging and analysis technology.

The company revealed at the 15th Annual Society for Biomolecular Sciences Conference that it would be working alongside Accelrys in a bid to advance the software available for this type of study.

It is hoped the new systems will be able to identify single cells using high content screening strategies to make tracking cellular markers more efficient and accurate.

PerkinElmer has offered up its Columbus image data management system to be integrated with Accelrys’ Pipeline Pilot analysis and reporting platform.

Dr Richard M Eglen, president of bio-discovery at PerkinElmer, said if the approach is a success, scientists may benefit significantly.

"The ability to easily provide researchers with detailed images and data on specific individual cells in a high content screening environment represents a major advance in cellular technologies and approaches," he added.

PerkinElmer recently announced it would exclusively distribute a range of blood spot specimen cards from ID Biological Systems.
