Perrigo launches new generic cough treatment

Perrigo has announced the launch of a new generic treatment to provide symptomatic relief of coughs in adults and children aged six and older.

The off-brand hydrocodone bitartrate and homatropine methylbromide oral solution is based on the branded product Hycodan, which is manufactured by Endo Pharmaceuticals. Sales of this drug for the 12 months ending April 2017 came to approximately $15 million (11.85 million pounds).

Perrigo is currently the world's largest manufacturer of over-the-counter products, and this launch will help to bolster a portfolio that will be further augmented by the introduction of two new prescription medicines before the end of the month, and five before the end of 2017.

John Hendrickson, Perrigo's chief executive officer, said: "This launch is another example of Perrigo's ongoing commitment to developing quality, high-value alternatives in the cough and cold treatment category."

It was recently confirmed that Mr Hendrickson will soon be retiring from his role at Perrigo, with the search for a successor having now commenced.
