Perrigo launches OTC version of women’s hair regrowth product

Perrigo has announced the first-to-market launch of an over-the-counter (OTC) version of the women's hair regrowth product minoxidil topical aerosol.

Based on the branded product Women's Rogaine 5% minoxidil foam, the product will be packaged and marketed as a retailer own-brand version, offering consumers a high-quality and lower-cost alternative to the established therapy.

Indicated to regrow hair on top of the scalp, the product generated annual sales of around $20 million (16.36 million pounds) for the 12 months ending February 2017.

Having received approval for the foam, Perrigo has already commenced shipments of its new OTC product.

John Hendrickson, chief executive officer of Perrigo, said: "This final approval and OTC launch is another example of introducing new store brand products that are equivalent to the national brand, while providing consumers with a lower-cost alternative in the marketplace."

This comes after the firm recently announced a series of changes to its leadership team following the departure of chief financial officer Judy Brown, who has been replaced by Ron Winowiecki on an interim basis.
