Petplan supports new Morrisons pet food packaging launch

22nd November 2010

Petplan, a division of Allianz Insurance, is supporting supermarket chain Morrisons in launching new pet food packaging designed to help prevent overfeeding of domestic animals.

The new packaging offered by the retailer will provide portion control guidance, informing consumers of the correct serving size for an animal of healthy weight, as well as showing how many portions each packet contains.

It comes in response to Petplan figures showing that 36 percent of dogs and 29 percent of cats treated by vets are obese, with overfeeding, excess snacking and ignorance of healthy weights among the key causes.

Brian Faulkner, Petplan's vet of the year, noted that animals must maintain healthy diets, as doing so can also be instrumental in helping owners to avoid expenditure on veterinary bills.

He added: "It's great to see Morrisons taking the lead on this and helping shoppers make more informed decisions about what they are feeding their pet."

Earlier this month, the Allianz Insurance business held the Petplan Equine Vet of the Year Award, which was won by Worcester-based David Denny.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800249142-ADNFCR
