Pfizer achieves greenhouse gas reduction target

9th August 2012

Pfizer has announced that it has been able to achieve its five-year greenhouse gas reduction targets a year ahead of schedule.

The company has slashed its emissions of greenhouse gases by 20 percent four years after originally making the pledge, achieving this goal by carrying out more than 1,500 energy conservation and utility projects.

Efforts have been made to improve efficiency, promote sustainability, increase use of renewable energy sources and eliminate unnecessary packaging, all of which have also contributed to Pfizer's other environmental protection programmes.

As a result, the company has also been able to realise $85 million (54.28 million pounds) in annualised project savings.

Steve Brooks, vice-president for global environment and health and safety at Pfizer, said: "Environmental sustainability is aligned with Pfizer's strategic business imperatives, including making the right capital allocations."

According to chief executive officer Ian Read, commenting on the publication of the firm's second quarter financial results last week, efficiency improvements and corporate streamlining are a key part of Pfizer's strategy moving forward.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801425423-ADNFCR
