Pfizer and Philadelphia hospital ally on paediatric research

4th April 2013

Pfizer has announced that the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is joining its Centers for Therapeutic Innovation research network.

The new agreement will see researchers from the hospital working with Pfizer's scientists to identify preclinical research at CHOP with potential applications for innovative treatments among children.

Pfizer will share an extensive collection of antibodies, proteins, proprietary research and drug development tools with CHOP with the ultimate aim of successfully advancing a project to phase I testing.

This will enable multiple areas of research in areas of high unmet need that hold strong potential for therapeutic interventions to be studied, rather than a single defined end product.

Dr Jose Carlos Gutierrez-Ramos, senior vice-president and head of biotherapeutics research and development at Pfizer, said: "This partnership will bring together the leading science at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia with Pfizer's global capabilities."

Last month, Pfizer announced positive new study data on its pneumococcal disease vaccine Prevenar 13, which has proven its efficacy among both adult and paediatric patients in several clinical trials.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801566376-ADNFCR
