Pfizer announces second quarter dividend

25th April 2008

Pharmaceutical firm Pfizer has announced that a 32 cent (16 pence) dividend will be paid on its common stock holdings for the second quarter of 2008.

The dividend will be payable to June 3rd, the company said. It is available to all shareholders logged with the company at the close of business on May 9th.

The dividend is the 278th consecutive quarterly dividend issues by the company, while 2008 marks the 41st consecutive year of annual dividend increases, it added.

Elsewhere, Pfizer has recently announced it will launch the first prescription pill to aid smoking cessation in the Japanese market. The Champix tablet, which was the first non-nicotine smoking cessation drug in the United States, reduces withdrawal feelings and tobacco cravings by targeting the same receptors in the brain as nicotine.

It will be launched in Japan – a country with one of the highest rates of smoking in the developed world – on May 8th.
