Pfizer enters deal with Claris Lifesciences

21st May 2009

Pfizer has made an arrangement with Claris Lifesciences to improve the availability in Europe of some products that have lost their market exclusivity.

As part of the agreement, the former will be able to commercialise sterile injectible medicines after they are no longer protected by a patent.

Under the terms of the deal, the rights to 15 products have been acquired by Pfizer. These cover a range of therapeutic areas such as pain relief and anti-infectives.

David Simmons is the president and general manager of the company’s established products business unit.

He commented: “These agreements advance our goals to expand our steriles portfolio and provide hospitals and patients with a wide offering of affordable medicines they can trust.”

In the industry, Pfizer has a reputation for being a reliable and high quality supplier ? which is vital in this particular field, Mr Simmons concluded.

The financial terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.

Earlier this month, the company launched a programme to help the unemployed and their families get access to Pfizer medicines for free.
