Pfizer launches London healthcare hub to support startup businesses
Pfizer has announced the launch of the Pfizer Healthcare Hub: London, an initiative that aims to support the UK's growing health technology sector.
The new addition to the company's global network of innovation hubs will provide startup companies with access to Pfizer's network and resources, helping late-stage startups to reach more patients and providers, including the NHS.
Applicants will compete for a share of a grant of 56,000 pounds and a year-long programme of support, aimed at helping them to navigate the UK's health system and introducing them to useful contacts.
This will aid the development of health-related devices, apps and wearables, as well as augmented reality and virtual reality innovations, that can benefit patients.
Erik Nordkamp, Pfizer's UK managing director, said: "We live in a country that is already a centre for original thinking and innovation within healthcare and our goal is to accelerate the success of the brightest startups in this field."
Pfizer already has innovation hubs in New York, Berlin and Tel Aviv, with new hubs also being launched in Stockholm, Sydney and Toronto.
