Pfizer names senior vice-president, general manager

19th May 2008

Pfizer has named Garry A Nicholson as senior vice-president and general manager of its new Oncology Business Unit.

He will report to Ian Read, president of Pfizer Worldwide Pharmaceutical Operations, and will have direct responsibility for a range of duties, including clinical development sales, marketing and commercial development.

Mr Read comments that Mr Nicholson is a highly-regarded executive whose experience makes him “exceptionally qualified” for the position.

“The oncology market is expected to grow significantly in the next decade. This is being driven by breakthrough science, the rapid uptake of new agents that meet high unmet medical need and treatments that are enabling cancer patients to live longer,” he adds.

Mr Nicholson joins the firm after more than ten years at Eli Lilly and Company.

In recent weeks, Pfizer announced an agreement to acquire multiple product franchises from Schering-Plough corporation, covering all major animal health species including equine, swine and cattle.
