Pharmacy “undergoing seismic change”

6th June 2008

The landscape of the pharmacy industry is likely to be unrecognisable in the not-too-distant future, according to the new president of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (RPSGB).

Steve Churton made his comments as he accepted the position in a meeting on June 4th.

“I cannot recall a time of so much change within our profession. Pharmacy is undergoing seismic change,” he stated.

Mr Churton said there are “high expectations” in terms of what pharmacy can offer, with government and public interest in the sector’s potential, value and enthusiasm to engage, at an “all-time high”.

He also noted his ambition to make the society truly responsive to the needs of those it represents.

In addition, the meeting also saw the re-election of Andrew Gush as RPSGB treasurer and Martin Astbury as the society’s vice-president.

The RPSGB recently announced that it agreed an a series of proposals with regard to handling less serious complaints against pharmacy technicians.
