Philips and Radboud University develop community-oriented diabetes app

22nd September 2015

Philips has allied with the Dutch Radboud University Medical Centre to create a diabetes prototype app with an integrated online community.

The connected digital health prototype is intended to enable people living with diabetes and their healthcare providers to make more confident care decisions, while managing the complexity of diabetes self-care.

It consists of a mobile patient app and online community, and works by collating data from electronic medical records and personal health devices to offer guidance on blood glucose levels, insulin use and nutrition.

Enrolled patients and healthcare professionals can also interact via private messaging or shared posts, allowing them to get feedback from their care team and share experiences with fellow patients, clinicians and caregivers.

The collaborative prototype will be made available as a pilot release by the end of the year, with plans to introduce similar connected care solutions addressing other chronic conditions.

Jeroen Tas, chief executive officer for healthcare informatics solutions and services at Philips, said: "This system has been designed by patients for patients and is enabling fully integrated health management and care delivery in a new, connected, efficient and highly patient-centric way."ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801801158-ADNFCR
