Philips announces global healthcare access programmes
Philips has announced the launch of a new series of global programmes that aim to improve access to healthcare among some of the world's neediest communities.
Coinciding with UN General Assembly Week, the schemes will see the company partner with governments, public health organisations, consumers and others to fulfil its broader goal of improving three billion lives each year by 2025.
Having pledged in 2014 to improve the lives of at least 100 million women and children in Africa and south-east Asia by 2025, the firm is increasing that commitment to 300 million people in underserved markets, with a particular focus on helping women and children and addressing increases in non-communicable diseases in poor communities.
Additionally, a campaign called Better Me, Better World has been launched in 15 countries, providing consumers with personal benefits while giving them the opportunity to contribute to healthcare causes that Philips will support through the Philips Foundation in 2018.
The company also recently hosted a high-level event gathering together with the Rockefeller Foundation and Devex on the topic of universal health coverage and opened a new Community Life Center in Mandera County, Kenya.
Frans van Houten, chief executive officer of Royal Philips, said: "We strongly believe that through the use of technology and responsible leadership, we can help increase access to quality healthcare and improve health outcomes for all."
