Philips announces new tech acquisition

4th December 2007

Royal Philips Electronics, the parent company of Philips Oral Healthcare, has announced it is to acquire the American firm Emergin.

Emergin, a provider of medical alarm software for hospitals, will join Philips’ Healthcare sector.

Philips reports that it intends to expand its use of IT within patient care.

Michael A McNeal, president and chief executive officer of Emergin, said the two companies have worked together to bring several innovative products to the market during the last five years.

Steve Rusckowski, chief executive officer of Philips Healthcare, said: “Our customers are looking for solutions that help them access the critical patient data that our monitors provide, quickly and flexibly throughout the hospital.”

Emergin’s software can offer them the access they need, he continued.

The software firm was recently ranked 360th in Deloitte’s 2007 Technology Fast 500 – which is a survey of the fastest growing technology and life sciences firms in North America.
