Philips helps to develop paediatric radiology initiative in Spain

Philips has announced a new paediatric radiology initiative called Imatgina, developed in collaboration with the CurArte Foundation and the Hospital Vall d'Hebron in Spain.

This advanced patient-centric initiative aims to improve the experience children have during diagnostic imaging tests by creating a friendly atmosphere that dispels the uncertainty and fear usually associated with these types of procedure.

Based on the principles of education, gamification and atmosphere, the multifaceted project included the development of ScanKids, a gaming application designed to show children what to expect and reduce their fears about X-ray, CT, MRI and ultrasound scans.

Meanwhile, the hospital's waiting room and CT scan room have been redesigned with an outer space theme, based on the same characters used in ScanKids, with the CT scanner itself repurposed as a spaceship.

Smart lighting adds further to the adventure angle, allowing patients to control the lighting environment, changing colour to suit their preferences and make them feel relaxed.

Ronald de Jong, chairman of the Philips Foundation Board, said: "Using innovative design and gamification, we hope to improve the hospital experience for young patients and their families during an often uncertain time."
