Philips highlights data praising the use of blue light

22nd October 2009

Philips has highlighted the positive results of a trial conducted by Harvard University, which found that the use of low-level blue light can be just as effective in treating seasonal mood swings and low energy levels as traditional light therapy.

The firm, which supplies various lamp products aimed at reducing the symptoms of seasonal affective disorder (SAD), stated that the use of low-level blue light has advantages over white-light treatment.

These include lamps being smaller and easier to transport and their ability to be adjusted to lower levels of intensity for the comfort of patients.

Based on consumer feedback and the outcome of studies, the company has “developed a portable light therapy device (the goLITE BLU HF3330) that provides a comfortable level of the right colour of blue light to improve people’s mood and increase energy and alertness,” Daniel Adams, a senior application scientist at Philips, stated.

As well as a range of pharmacy and wellbeing products, Philips is also a major provider of dental care items.
