Philips launches new breast cancer awareness app
cancer and the measures necessary to avoid it.
Entitled Breast Aware, the app has been developed in partnership with Breast Cancer Care and is free to download on iOS devices. It provides a step-by-step guide to checking breasts for signs of cancer, detailing the telltale symptoms for which to look out.
The aim of the app is to encourage women across the UK to check their breasts regularly each month in order to ensure that cases of breast cancer are detected early, meaning it will be easier to treat.
Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in the UK overall, with around 55,000 people being diagnosed with the condition each year.
Alwena Hall, marketing manager for Philips Healthcare UK, said: "As a technology company that cares about people, we continue to invest in research and development of innovative solutions which can aid in the early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer."
In September 2013, the company allied with the Focused Ultrasound Foundation, the Institute of Cancer Research and the Royal Marsden NHS Hospital on a collaborative ultrasound research initiative.
