Philips launches respiratory support products

26th May 2009

Philips’ Trilogy100 Ventilator is a significant advancement in home respiratory support, it has stated.

The product is one of three devices the company has recently launched to assist with breathing problems.

Designed to help clinicians and caregivers give help to the sufferer in their own accommodation, the first product also allows the user to be as active as possible.

The second device, the Respironics V60 Ventilator, offers traditional invasive breathing support by inserting a tube into the windpipe, or through an alternative method.

Randy Whitfield, general manager of hospital respiratory care, commented on the latter: “Non-invasive ventilation has been proven to significantly reduce the incidence of ventilator-associated pneumonia and ? shorten the time patients spend in the hospital.”

Due for release in June, the final product ? called the Respironics V200 Critical Care Ventilator ? provides ventilation for neonatal, paediatric patients and adults.

The product contains a speaking function, which permits the user to communicate without the need for external valves.

Earlier this month, the company strengthened its position as a provider of minimally invasive therapy solutions through its acquisition of the firm Traxtal.
