Philips study shows widespread recognition of connected care tech
Philips has revealed the findings of a new report showing that connected care technologies are seeing widespread acceptance among UK patients and healthcare professionals.
The company's Future Health Index revealed that in the last 12 months, 48 percent of healthcare professionals have seen an increase in the use of connected care technologies by primary care doctors, while 38 percent have seen an increase in use by other primary and secondary healthcare services.
It was also shown that out of the 19 markets surveyed, the UK has a higher-than-average IT spend on Internet of Things technology across software, connectivity and services in healthcare as a percentage of GDP.
Additionally, the report showed that 31 per cent of members of the public have used connected care technology to monitor a health indicator in the last 12 months. Although younger generations are leading the way in this regard, 26 percent of individuals aged 55 and above were also found to have used this technology.
Neil Mesher, chief executive officer of Philips in the UK and Ireland, said: "Leveraging technological innovations not only has the ability to empower people to manage their health and stay out of the hospital, but to deliver effective treatment plans and ease the burden on medical staff by balancing the partnership between doctors and patients."
