Philips to purchase medical device business assets from Digirad
Philips has agreed a definitive purchase agreement for the service contracts of Digirad's medical device sales and service (MDSS) business unit.
The $8 million (GBP 5.9 million) deal is expected to close at the end of the month, with Digirad agreeing to sell the assets in order to better focus on its core business of providing mobile diagnostic healthcare solutions for patients.
The MDSS business unit provides post-warranty contract maintenance services for large diagnostic imaging equipment from Philips, primarily in the upper midwest region of the US.
As part of the deal, Digirad and Philips have pledged to extend their prior consolidated service agreement to continue to providing installation and warranty services sold in the US upper midwest area through to the end of January 2018.
Digirad president and chief executive officer Matt Molchan said: "We have been evaluating our opportunity to run this service business outside our prior Philips relationship, and we determined that the best value for the business would be in the hands of Philips."
