Phonak to launch Bluetooth-compatible Audeo B-Direct hearing aid

18th August 2017

Phonak has announced the launch of an innovative new hearing aid that can connect to a wide range of cellphones and TVs using Bluetooth technology.

The Audeo B-Direct hearing aid is the first product to make use of Sonova's Sword chip and wireless radio technology, providing direct connectivity to mobile devices – including Android, iOS and even older non-smartphones – with no need for an extra body-worn streaming device.

This allows users to hear phone alerts and take calls directly through their hearing aid, which also incorporates a TV Connector and proprietary AirStream technology that lets multiple Audeo B-Direct users connect to a single TV set.

Other key features include high-end sound quality and a low-voltage wireless chip with the lowest power consumption of any hearing aid using Bluetooth Classic technology.

Thomas Lang, senior vice-president of Phonak Marketing, said: "We're giving more hearing aid wearers access to proven Belong technology without limiting them to a single cellphone, manufacturer or operating system. This is a true game-changer for our industry."

The new hearing aid is debuting in the US this month, with a further rollout across Europe and other countries worldwide beginning in September.
