Porter Novelli wins European marketing brief for Eliquis

30th May 2013

Porter Novelli is to carry out marketing and PR work for Bristol-Myers Squibb to promote the new anticoagulant therapy Eliquis.

The agency's healthcare-focused sister shop Paradigm Communications has secured the European contract following a competitive pitching process and will now handle comms duties for the potential blockbuster therapy, according to The Holmes Report.

Eliquis has been approved in the US and Europe to prevent strokes in people with heart rhythm disorders and is part of a new generation of anti-clotting agents that are being positioned to replace warfarin, the long-established standard of care.

It is expected that Eliquis – as well as rival products Pradaxa from Boehringer Ingelheim and Xarelto from Bayer HealthCare – will be heavily promoted by its manufacturer, with analysts forecasting that peak sales could exceed $5 billion (3.3 billion pounds).

This new contract win comes in the same month that Porter Novelli appointed Mary Smiddy as its new head of health and wellness for the UK.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801592032-ADNFCR
